The department of the Vendee is situated in Western France on the Atlantic
coast with the Charente-Maritime to the south and Brittany to the north, the area has diverse countryside. In the far south of the Vendee the land is a huge agriculture area with a wide variety of crops and with far reaching views, the most spectacular being sunflowers and they never fail to bring a smile to your face when you see them!
The Vendee and Charente are one of the popular holiday spots and have long been a favourite with the French. This coastline is particularly suitable for families with young children, with more than 100 miles of golden beaches edged with dunes and pine forests.
The French Vendee is just a few hours drive from the channel ports of St Malo, Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre and a lot closer than you might think, renowned for its own micro-climate, similar to the Mediterranean coast but without the hours of driving. The area is served well by the low cost airlines, there are 3 airports within a couple of hours drive and recently the famous French high speed train service TGV opened new links to La Roche sur Yon and Les Sables d'Olonne.
