A pretty 2 bedroom gite, renovated to a high standard, located close to the village of Mervent on the edge of Mervent Forest in the Vendee region of Western France with the Atlantic on its Western Coast, La Rochelle to the South, Nantes and Brittany to the North, on the borders of the Vendee and the Charente-Maritime, 10min's from Fontenay le Comte. Nearby are the pretty village of Vouvant, Mervent nestled in the large surrounding forest and close to the protected nature reserve of the Marais Poitevin with picture postcard villages in the Venice Verte (Green Venice).

The kitchen is a well equipped Kitchen/Dining room with 4 ring gas hob, double oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, Kettle, Toaster, Crockery, cutlery/utensils, Iron and Hair dryer. All the items that you would expect to find, just in a different place. Dining table and seating for 4 people.

Living area.The lounge has comfortable seating, Satellite TV, DVD player, wood burning fire.

Bedrooms. 1 double bedroom, bedside table etc; and 1 twin room with a standard size single bed and a smaller child's bed

Bathroom and Toilets. Bathroom with a jet Spa shower, Hand basin and WC.

Garden and outdoor facilities. The gardens are totally private, safe for children. There are 2 swings, outdoor games and 3 bikes. Play boules, the French favourite pastime, attractive enclosed Terrace, BBq , fridge for drinks, lights and music for the evenings. Swimming (splash) pool. Private parking.

Miscellaneous. On arrival guests receive a free drink and bites plus a bottle of wine. Twice weekly there is a Barbecue meal, reserve a place at 15euro per person and children 10euro. Off road parking area, all rooms are provided with duvets and pillows, Linen and towels can be provided on request for a small fee. £5 per person, per week. High chair and cot provided on request.

Location. Nearest Airports La Rochelle, Poitiers & Nantes are served by most of the low cost airlines. Car hire is available at these airports. The area is only three hours drive from the port of St. Malo, 4 hours from Ouistream (Caen) and 4 ½ from Cherbourg. It is close to the west coast of France. Picturesque La Rochelle and popular resorts such as La Tranche sur Mer and Les Sables D'Olonne are roughly an hour's drive away.

Activities. You are in an easy driving distance of Vouvant and Mervent with its forest and lakes, just outside Mervent you can go to the Retro adventure park for both adults and children. Pissotte has a large vineyard, tours and tasting during most of the year. Well located for a number of very high class competition standard golf courses, cycling, sailing, fishing, horse riding and go-Karting all available nearby. A great family day out is at Xanton-Chassenon, which is only 4-minutes by car and is a fresh water lake, great for sailing, swimming, water-sports, there is a water flume for the children. Popular hypermarket LeClerc and a wide range of shops are to be found in Fontenay le Comte. Visit the Chateau and the Saturday market or just walk along the banks of the river Vendee. Puy du Fou, Futuroscope and the Brandy houses of Cognac are all easy day trips .

Chris - We had a great stay at Maison Papillon and would happily recommend it and Chris's and Dave's hospitality. The huge garden, with fruit trees and a seemingly endless lawn, gives plenty of space for children to run around safely and for everyone to spread out. The splash pool is fine for cooling off and can be supervised from the semi-enclosed converted piggery, an alternative to the house for alfresco dining and drinking (complete with fridge which the owners keep stocked and you pay for whatever you use on an honour system). A place for total relaxation.

Bryan, Mat & Miranda, - We've had a fab week, been to loads of different places and seen lots. Enjoyed the house and the dips in the pool .

June & Morgan. - We came here to relax and chill out thats exactly what we did. We tried the local restaurants - very good places for eating out just 2 mins away, in a river beach setting, watching the sun go down. Magic! Gite was very comfortable and well equipped. We would recommend this as a relaxing place to stay
