This deceptively spacious holiday home is situated in a small village on the edge of the forest of Chantemerle. This house has just been totally renovated but has kept lots of its original features and loads of exposed beams. You are only a short drive (5 mins) from the town of Moncoutant which hosts, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and other small shops. There are 2 larger towns nearby - La Chataigneraie and Bressuire.

The kitchen. The fitted kitchen has a full complement of units making plenty of work surface with a ceramic hob and fan assisted oven, washing machine, fridge with small freezer compartment, Iron and dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine. It has a vaulted ceiling and open staircase to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom The rear door opens onto the lovely garden. The kitchen also leads to the downstairs bedroom and bathroom.

Living area. The living room has two large comfy settees, two armchairs and a traditional French high open fireplace. DVD player, CD player. There are double French doors opening onto a graveled patio and garden.

Bedrooms. There are 3 bedrooms. 2 upstairs and one ground floor and is ideal for people with mobility difficulties. The ground floor bedroom is next to the downstairs bathroom and kitchen. The double bed is a French walnut bedstead and matches the triple French walnut wardrobe. Double French doors that open on to the garden, so you can sit outside for your breakfast coffee. On the 1st floor there is the 2nd bedroom which has a double pine bed and the vaulted ceiling and original beams give real character to this room. Bedroom 3 has twin single beds and wardrobe.

Bathroom and Toilets. There are brand new multijet shower rooms on both floors with Showers, wash hand basin and toilets.

Garden and outdoor facilities. A well maintained garden with a long lawn, trees and flowers that are beautiful when in full bloom. The graveled patio area, which is something of a suntrap, is ideal for sunbathing in the day and al fresco dining on the warm summer evenings. BBq, garden furniture and gazebo. There are folding chairs and a hardwood set for outdoor dining, games including garden darts, croquet and boules.

Miscellaneous. All services are included, water heating & electricity. There are double gates to the side of the house which allow you to drive into a parking area where there is room for 2/3 cars. The local bar is just along the road and they have a good reputation for food.

Location. The ferry ports of St Malo 3.75hrs, Caen 4 hours, Le Havre 4.50 hrs, Cherbourg 5 hours and Roscoff 4.75 hr. Local airports of La Rochelle and Poitiers are 1.5hrs.

Activities. The area is unspoilt and peaceful, with lovely rolling countryside, suitable for touring, walking and cycling. There are traditional markets in medieval Parthenay, Bressuire, Coulonges and Fontenay, and an artisans market every Sunday in the summer at the Pescalis Fishing & Nature centre which is 5 minutes away. The Mervent Forest is one of the largest woodlands in France where you can walk or go boating or fishing by the lake.  La Rochelle is just over an hour away and is a must with its harbour-side sea food restaurants, quay-side markets, cobbled streets plus museums, shopping and aquarium.  Or spend a relaxing afternoon punting amongst the leafy green waterways of the Marais Poitevin national park – a network of canals and waterways stretching all the way to the coast. Puy du Fou is an incredible historical theme park by day with battle re-enactments by gladiators in a full-size coliseum jousting medieval knights, Vikings, and hunting birds “dancing” to music, and by night there is a spectacular “son et lumière with fireworks, fountains, lasers and stunt riding against the flaming background of a ruined fortress.  Advance booking for the evening show is advised during the summer months. There is a"Plan d'eau" in the area, lakes with man made beaches, for a relaxing day by the water. Within 1 ½ hours drive there are beaches, lakes, caves, nature sites, and much more.
If you are fond of wine and good cognac, you can have a fabulous day out touring the distilleries in Cognac and Jarnac, sampling their wares .
